Why is my .UK Domain Name Suspended for Data Quality ?

.UK in this article is shorthand for ...
.co.uk
.org.uk
.me.uk
.ltd.uk
.plc.uk
(region).sch.uk
.gov.uk
.police.uk
.uk
(but excludes .ac.uk which is  currently handled by a different registry)

Nominet (the Registry for .UK domain names) require as part of the requirements for registering and retaining a .uk domain name that correct, verifiable and accurate registrant (owner/operator) data is held for each domain name.

In order to maintain the accuracy of the .uk registrant data Nominet undertake a number of automated steps to verify the details you provided, such as Royal Mail address checking etc

You can see some details of their process at
https://registrars.nominet.uk/uk-namespace/data-quality-policy/data-validation-process/

For any .uk domains that do not pass the automatic data validation steps, Nominet informs the domain registrar (that is us) to have *YOU* confirm the data and provide documentation to have it verified manually.

Should this be necessary we will need you need to provide copies of official document(s) that can confirm

  • your name
  • your business (if registered in for a company)
  • your (or the business) address

Acceptable / requested documents required can include

  • Passport
  • Driving licence
  • Utility bill
  • Council tax bill
  • Redacted bank statement

or similar.

These documents will need to be uploaded/attached to the support ticket, and will be securely deleted as soon as the verification is completed.
We do not pass any documents on to Nominet, but we do confirm to them which documents were provided for both their and our records.

Summary
If you receive a "UK Data Quality Lock" email from us it means that Nominet has been unable to validate your name, business details, address or other required data against their 3rd party data sources and in order to keep the .uk registered and active you must complete additional verification and documentation steps.
